Paideia’s Varsity Academic Bowl Teams Face Off Against Top Teams in the State in their First Competition of the Season

Paideia's varsity academic bowl teams competed at the Rams Early Season Tournament at Newton High School on Saturday. In their first outing of the year, Paideia fared well in a very challenging field that included three of the top ranked teams in the state and last year's national runner up.

The senior squad of Elaina Gaydos (captain), Maxim Slopsema, Alex Slopsema and Cyrus Rahbari was joined by sophomore Sai Kakarala, and went 4-4 on the day with wins over Union Grove, Northview's second team and two separate teams from Innovation Academy.

The junior squad of Ethan Fu (captain), Alec Freeman, Rohan Thomas and J.W. Pelissier also went 4-4 on the day with wins over Greater Atlanta Christian and Northview's second team.

In the last round of the day, the two squads faced each other, with the junior team winning a narrow victory in an exciting back and forth game.

Alec Freeman and Maxim Slopsema won individual awards for being the 4th and 6th highest scoring individual players in the tournament.

A great start to what we expect to be an exciting season! Way to go, academic bowl teams!
