The weekend of October 21, the Paideia Math Team traveled to Athens for the UGA High School Math Tournament. Led by team/club co-leaders senior Baikal Miller ’24 and junior Alok Ahn ’25, the team also included juniors Henry Cayce ’25 and Annabeth Meeks ’25.
This was the team’s first event of the season, and they competed in a field of 71 teams from multiple states. The Paideia squad placed 36th overall, right in the middle of the pack. The tournament consisted of multiple parts. In the individual written test, Alok and Annabeth both scored in the top 100 individuals, each scoring over 100 points. Alok and Henry were the team leaders in the individual ciphering.
The team’s strongest showing was in the collaborative team portion of the competition– Paideia’s squad finished in the top 20, tied with teams from schools that have been math competition powerhouses for many years: Westminster, the Gwinnett School of Math, Science and Technology, Vestavia Hills (from Alabama who are historically perhaps the best school in the nation for math contests), Northview, and the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Mathematics.
We look forward to seeing how the team continues to perform throughout their season! Way to go, Math Team!
