Paideia’s Junior Varsity quiz bowl team distinguished itself yet again on Saturday, October 28 at the Titan Takedown Tournament, held at Northview High School. After capturing the independent school championship at the fall kickoff tournament a few weeks ago, our Pythons experienced a step up in competition at their most recent event, playing in a division that included teams from Georgia schools of all sizes. The Pythons nevertheless continued to stand out among Georgia’s elite, advancing to the tournament final and winning 2nd place.
Captain Ethan Fu and his teammates Alec Freeman, Gayatri Kedar, Rachel Morrison, Rohan Thomas, and Theo Arnold avenged a morning loss to powerhouse North Gwinnett by winning the rematch in the tournament semifinals before falling in a hard-fought tournament final loss to Innovation Academy, another of Georgia’s elite quiz bowl programs.
Paideia’s Junior High team was also in action on the day, suffering some tough losses against an also strong junior high tournament field, but competitors Sai Kakarala, Alex Bradley, Sanjiv Westbrook, Nick Xu, Errol Kelly, Peter Smith, Zia Rahman, and Daniel Rahbari gained valuable competitive experience in their matches and some handed-down wisdom as they watched their older teammates perform. With the younger Pythons competing, Paideia senior and Varsity quiz bowl captain Emerson Moore did great service to the program by coaching his JV teammates into the tournament final.
