We have two options for 5-year-olds: one is a half-day program in a mixed-age class with 3- and 4-year-olds; the other is a full-day program in a mixed-age class with 6-year-olds. Typically, children with spring and summer birthdays are more successful in our half-day kindergarten. (In fact, children born from May 1 to Sept. 1, 2015 will ONLY be considered for our half-day kindergarten program.) Regardless, most 5-year-olds proceed to first grade the following year. Applicants to either of our kindergarten programs must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2019. If you have questions about which program is appropriate for your child, please don’t hesitate to contact either Caroline Quillian Stubbs, director of admissions, or Ashley Hughes Austin, assistant director of admissions.

Our half-day kindergarten program promotes social, emotional, and intellectual growth through a rich environment emphasizing exploration, imagination, interaction, and communication. Students in the half-day kindergarten program enroll in either a morning or an afternoon session, each of which consists of approximately 24 children, ages 3-5, with four dedicated teachers.

Our full-day kindergarten program typically serves children ages 5 ½ and older. Each self-contained multi-age classroom consists of two full-time teachers and a blend of kindergarteners and first-graders. Throughout the week, students visit specialists for science, library, music, art, and P.E.
