Every two years, the best young ultimate players from across the world have the opportunity to compete at the World Junior Ultimate Championship (WJUC) sponsored by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF). This year, the tournament runs July 21-27 in Birmingham, UK hosted by the group, UK Ultimate.
Junior Ashima Gandhi is the only student from Paideia and the state of Georgia to represent the US in the tournament as a member of the U20 Mixed team. This year’s tournament is doubly special for Paideia because we not only have a member of our student body representing our school and country, but a faculty member as well; High School math and science teacher Martin Aguilera ’96 is coaching the USA U20 Mixed Ultimate team.
Following yesterday’s opening ceremony, the team kicked off the tournament with a win against Latvia. The team maintained strong play today with wins over Austria and France. We wish the team luck as they continue playing! To follow the rest of the tournament and cheer on Ashima, Martin and the rest of the U20 Mixed team, click here.
