Paideia girls ultimate teams, Groove and Demi-Groove, win state championships.

This weekend, both boys and girls varsity and junior varsity ultimate teams played in the state championship. The varsity and junior varsity boys played on Saturday at the Earl O'Neill Sports Complex in Covington. After another competitive season, the boys varsity ultimate team, Gruel, finished fifth in the state tournament. The junior varsity boys ultimate team placed 4th in state. Congratulations to coach Michael Baccarini and both varsity and junior varsity teams on strong seasons. 

The girls varsity ultimate team, Groove, started off the state tournament weekend playing Lakeside and Decatur at home on Saturday. The team played Academe of the Oaks in the semi-finals on Sunday at Decatur High School before advancing to the finals where they faced off against Decatur. Groove won 8-2, securing their third consecutive state championship and the 12th state championship win for Groove in the last 13 years. Congratulations to coaches Miranda Knowles ’00 and Lylah Bannister ’20, and the entire team for a phenomenal season! The girls junior varsity ultimate team, Demi-Groove, competed on Saturday morning at Python Park against Midtown and Decatur, ultimately defeating Decatur 8-2 to win the state championship. Congrats to coach India Stubbs ’11 and all of Demi-Groove!
