New Mother Goose Construction

New Goose

UPDATE!

We are thrilled to report that we have gifts and pledges equaling this $2 million fundraising goal! The list of donors includes parents, alumni parents, grandparents, students, foundations, faculty and staff, and other friends of the school. Paideia graduates contributed well over $150,000 and thereby earned an additional $25,000 challenge grant from an anonymous donor.

Rebuilding

It was immediately obvious that we had no choice except to build an entirely new building because the school needed the space. The questions were what choices we would have in a new building.

From the ashes...

Mother Goose was a charming building, some felt an iconic symbol of the elusive Old Paideia. For almost 30 years every high school student had classes there. Ninth graders used it as home base. Legendary faculty taught there.

The Goose was not, however, a particularly efficient or functional building. A building replacing the original Goose should honor its charm, but work much better for students and teachers. Also, since land has always been scarce on our campus, we wanted to get as much square footage as possible in the new Mother Goose.

The New Goose

Over the past months, the building committee, architects, the board, and the staff have been working hard to hurry the project along. We have made great progress and want to break ground in the early summer. We have permission from the City of Atlanta and have the support of the neighborhood.

The new Mother Goose:

  • Three full floors and a total of 12,000 square feet. (The old one had 3,000 square feet.)
  • ADA compliant and LEED certified.
  • New technology, functioning bathrooms, and appropriate climate controls.
  • Will also connect to the backstage of the theater area.

But in its proportions, materials, and most importantly, the round front porch, the new Mother Goose will retain the feeling of the old building.
