Athletics

Paideia Junior High athletics are the first opportunities Paideia students have to play an organized, school-sponsored sport. Junior high is a good time to begin a sport never attempted before and to continue playing sports learned elsewhere. All of our teams have a range of players from the completely inexperienced to the advanced player.

We do not have a physical education requirement in the junior high at Paideia and we ask each student to play one sport during their seventh grade year and one sport during their eighth grade year. However, we do not make participation a hard and fast requirement. Most junior high students participate in at least one sport per year and many play more than one. Aside from the health benefits, it’s a great way to make friends, and for many kids it’s their first experience with the commitment and responsibility of being on a team.

The emphasis is on participating and learning the fundamentals of a sport. We have a firm no-cut policy. Everyone who tries out will get on a team, practice, and play. In some sports we have “A” teams for the most skilled and experienced players, and “B” teams for those still learning and improving. The commitment to a team is for no more than three days per week, including practices and games.
