Track & Field - Junior High
The goal of the 2017 JH Track and Field Team is for the athletes to develop their overall fitness levels, to increase their speed, to try out new disciplines, to set and achieve individual goals, to race, throw, and jump well, and to have fun in the process. Running Track and engaging in Field Events will definitely challenge our athletes to push themselves to new heights, to develop new insights, and to reach a deeper understanding of themselves. By the conclusion of the season, we hope that each JH Track and Field Team Member will know s/he was an important part of something meaningful. We are also confident that, with the depth of our returning members, combined with the talent and energy of our newest recruits, we will be winning/placing high in individual races, events, and/or meets, and that will be icing on the cake.
Track and Field Team members can explore sprinting (100m, 200m, 400m), middle distance (800m), distance (1600m, 3200m), and hurdles (100/110m, 300m). We also run the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800. The potential field event options include high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus.
JH Track and Field practices M, W, F, 3:15-5:30. We meet in the JH Commons, and we provide transportation to and from Cheney Track. Our first official practice will be on Wednesday, January 18th. In December and early January, we offer RUN CLUB to anyone interested in doing a bit of running preseason if it does not interfere with a winter sport. The days and times of RUN CLUB are the same as those of JH Track and Field.
Meets are almost exclusively on Saturdays (most Saturdays March - April), and they generally run all day. Our first meet will be at Landmark Christian School on Saturday, February 27th. Our season runs through the State Meet, April 21st-22nd. Uniforms will be provided and are to be returned at the end of the season.
2017 is destined to be an exciting season for the JH Track and Field Team. A solid number of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are demonstrating their interest and enthusiasm by either joining our Team for the first time or returning as experienced veterans. We are very much looking forward to another successful season!
