What are Good Scores?

The ARML team is selected by scores. The most important scores are the AMC/AIME/USAMO series of national tests and the GCTM state tournament test. Local and regional tournaments can be important if you beat members of the current ARML team.

But one good score is not enough. We would like to see you involved in math tournaments all year. We do not count the number of tournaments you attend, but we like to see your name frequently.

The USAMO selection index = AMC + 10 * AIME. Where AMC represents the students score on the AMC10 or AMC12 and AIME is the score on the American Invitational Mathematics Exam. We often subtract 15 points from an AMC10 score.

Note: the AMC can be taken twice. If you are young and taking the AMC tests for the first time, we recommend that you take the AMC10 the first time and the AMC12 the second.

Note: USAMO refers the the United States of America Mathematics Olympiad. A few hundred students in the US are invited to take it each year.

8 members of the Ga team were selected for to take USAMO (selection index 217 or higher). This is the most ever.

USAMO selection indices for the 2006 Georgia A team follow:
The
USAMO selection index = AMC + 10 * AIME.

> 240       1
> 230       4
> 220       3
> 210       4
> 200       1
> 185       1
> 160       1
All 8 USAMO in Georgia were on the A team.

USAMO selection indices for the 2006 Georgia B team follow:

> 200       3
> 190       4
> 180       5
> 170       2
> 160       1

State Tournament Scores

State tournament rank for members of the A team
1-4, 8-12, 14, 17, 18, 21
two did not take the state tournament test.

Members of the B team ranked
5,6,15,16,19-23, 26, 27, 29, 34, 37, 41

Notice that the USAMO index correlates better with selection to ARML teams than the state tournament rank. Also note that some members of the Georgia B are very young and are not likely to do particularly well on a test such as the varsity state tournament test.
